Mermaids

When I Saw the Mermaid

She rose where moonlight kissed the sea,
A shimmer born of mystery.
Her hair spilled wide in threads of gold,
A story ancient, yet untold.

Her skin was soft as coral’s glow,
Her tail like starlight swirled below;
Each scale a jewel, each breath a spell,
The ocean’s heart knew her so well.

She sang, and every wave grew bright,
The sky itself leaned close with light.
A melody both wild and kind,
It stitched new dreams into my mind.

The air was warm, the world stood still,
As magic crowned the midnight hill;
I knew the sea had lent to me
A glimpse of all eternity.

And though she vanished with the tide,
Her wonder lingers, magnified.
For in that glance, my soul was stirred—
By magic deeper than a word.
